The Herm Sprenger Black Stainless Steel Prong collar is one of the most recognizable and popular names in obedience training tools. A safe and effective alternative to choker collars, it puts even pressure around the neck, about every half inch, pinching the skin in a band. This collar does not apply direct pressure to the trachea, so you can train your dog with little or no tugging, jerking, or pulling. The addition of a center plate connector allows the middle link to be configured symmetrically, enabling the prongs to tighten in the same direction. Made of high quality German Black stainless steel, the size of this collar can be adjusted by adding or removing the links individually. The comfort version with ring and swivel offers highest flexibility between dog collar and leash due to the swivel.
The collar consists of a center plate, assembly chain, one ring and one swivel, with a click-lock (clic-lock) closure. The blunt prongs are effective without causing pain.
This collar is made of black stainless steel. Each collar made of this material has a high-gloss surface. But it is not all. Black stainless steel is the same composition of iron, chromium, silicon, nickel and carbon that make up traditional stainless steel products. The collar will not rust even in conditions of seawater or high humidity. Also it has a protective coating of polymer that creates a black finish. Black stainless steel is as durable as classic stainless steel, but features a richer, deeper colored finish.
This black stainless steel collar is suitable for dogs with dark fur and those canines who are not reactive to nickel. The collars made of black stainless steel are not recommended for dogs with light coat, as because of normal abrasion processes they may color fur. If your dog has light fur we advise to order a nickel free curogan or stainless steel prong collar.
All Herm Sprenger pinch collars come in a standard length which is adjusted to fit the neck of the dog by removing or adding links to the collar. The size of this particular pinch collar is 23 inches (58 cm) with prong's diameter - 1/8 inches (3.2 mm). So, it will do for dogs with 21 inches (53 cm) neck size. If your dog's neck circumference is more than 21 inches (53 cm), you can order additional links. Each will add 1 1/2 inches (4.2 cm) to the total collar length. When ordering, ensure you are choosing the correct millimeter sized prong link in the same metal composition as your collar. This will maintain a consistent tensile strength throughout the collar, ensuring proper training communication and collar longevity.
When adding and removing prong links, remember to keep the same number of prong links affixed on each side of the center plate. If the collar fitting requires an odd number of prong links, then make sure one side of the center plate has only one more prong link than the other side. Your goal is to ensure the center plate stays at the front of the dog's neck above the trachea.
Nylon Protector can not be installed on this collar. If you require the nylon protector, please chose a different model of the collar.
